Classically designed with high-speed mobile browsing, email, multimedia features, a multitude of connectivity options, and convenient shortcut keys.

Wireless LAN. It is a local area network that transmits over the air typically in an unlicensed frequency such as the 2.4GHz band. A wireless LAN does not require lining up devices for line-of-sight transmission like IrDA. Wireless access points (base stations) are connected to an Ethernet hub or server and transmit a radio frequency over an area of several hundred to a thousand feet and can penetrate walls and other nonmetal barriers. Roaming users can be handed off from one access point to another like a cellular phone system. Laptops use wireless modems that plug into an existing Ethernet port or that are self contained on PC cards, while standalone desktops and servers use plug-in cards.

Motorola Q

Cell Phone Type : Smartphone
Carrier : Verizon Wireless
Cell Network Technology : CDMA
Wireless Technology : Bluetooth, Infrared
Weight : 4.1 oz

Update: the Motorola Q is now available on both Verizon and Sprint in the US.
Size and weight are both good; it’s quite wide at 4.6 x 2.5 x 0.45 inches but you can also see it’s thin. It weighs in at 4.1ounces and importantly it fits in the pocket easily and comfortably. If it weren’t for my clumsy habit of bending forward to pick things up and watching my phone shoot towards the ground I’d carry it in my shirt pocket all the time.

There’s no Wi-Fi so SKYPE calls over Wi-Fi are out but at 700Kbps EVDO should handle that; it’ll be interesting to see if a SKYPE for Smartphone is created to match the already available SKYPE for Pocket PC.

Mini SD is the expansion option of choice 1Gb is (reasonably) cheap and useful. What’s less than useful is the daft cover over the slot. It takes nerves of steel to muster up the force to peel open the cover over the miniSD slot; knowing that any slip could see your new toy flying through the air in an un-powered screen scratching decent to destruction.

The Q ships with a 1.3 megapixel camera with LED flash. I thought we might get a 2 MP unit but I think that Motorola opted for quality over quantity. The picture color balance is really quite good – better than my QTEK S200 with its 2MP unit! And it's head and shoulders above the scary MPx220's camera.

Bluetooth is at version 1.2 not 2.0. I think this is another example of getting the product right rather than having the latest and greatest.

The book says 234 minutes talk and 212 hours standby. I haven’t had it that long to judge the 212 hours and I think the 4 hours talk time is a stretch; it seemed to be calling for the charger long before that.

Apple iPhone (8GB)

Image Courtesy of Apple from familiar the 30 of iPod framed
by the twin loudspeakers.

Million owners of iPhone who finish falling the payment of one week in a unit that still lacks these capacities are not complaining almost. So that? Because the truth is that they just do not need an improvement - already to have one of groundbreaking yet, diversion to use (and practically psychic) the adminículos in the history of the technology. This iPhone of the first generation ($499 USD for the version 4GB, $599 USD for the far more popular model 8GB), available of AT&T, has exclusively defects? Absolutely: If no, it must not have reason of a following - model of the generation or the periodic improvements of software and the softwares unalterable that they are safe to come. But really - who gives a failure of the flight? These defects are choked by a dual impact of the ready innovation in terms of using interface snazzy of the device and shining-made integration of the design, the physical OS and software - behind and in front of its crystal surface that flashes.

Because one is enu ven to be envisaged of Apple, the iPhone out of metal comprises a design of minimalist. To 4.5 X 2.4 X 0.46 inch, it feel smooth and fresh with the contact, and 4.8 ounces, if smells itself heavy rather than heavy. There are some not labelled minimalist and buttons --an on/off switch of ringing and a voice rock on the left side and, to the top of top, the card tray of SIM and the jack of ear-phone of 3.5mm. On the bottom is the pin connector

But naturally, the iPhone is more than a iPod of imagination. On the bottom of the screen at the house are the icons for four principal functions of the iPhone: telephone, mail, web browser of safari and iPod. Above the latter iPhone, 12 additional handy functions are the widgets: Text messaging of SMS, calendar, photographs, camera, YouTube, stocks, charts of Google, time, clock, computer, notes and arrangements. Of the latter, nothing is as attaching as without end causing a dependence and travel-time filling widget of YouTube. Almost as additive is the charts of Google. You can bourdonner inside of the satellite sight anywhere in the world, click then on the “chart” to see a chart of road of the sector which you bourdonné inside above.

No other smartphone with as much integrated memory than 8 gigaoctets of the iPhone, but this could prove to be a disadvantage. For a thing, there is no external slit of chart of memory to increase your memory capacity. Thus between your music, photographs, video and PodCasts it is iPod-easy to charge that, you will fill that 8 gigaoctets (really around 7.2 gigaoctets since OS X of imper takes a piece of space) on your first synchro. We wish that there be of A Scramble-like the option of autofill for those of us with more than one couple of thousand ways of AAC in our collection.

Camera shortage affecting new mobiles

Motorola is facing supply problems for camera components that are hurting its unit volumes, executives at the company said this week.
According to Tom Lynch, president of Motorola's Personal Communications Sector (PCS), the company's new integrated-camera handsets are seeing strong demand, but deliveries are slowing on the restricted supply of the integrated-
camera components.

The Motorola V300 and V500 began shipping earlier in the quarter and are available today, and the V600 will ship imminently," Lynch said. "Unit volumes, however, are lower than our customers are asking for due to supply constraints for the integrated-camera components."

Meanwhile, Motorola still expects 18 new phones to ship this quarter, seven featuring colour displays and eight featuring colour displays and integrated cameras.

"The supply constraint for integrated-camera components is an industry-wide problem," said Bob Perez, v-p and general manager of supply chain operations for Motorola PCS. "Motorola is feeling a larger impact because of the extremely limited supply of the smaller camera technology that we use for our handsets."

Motorola said demand trends are very strong for Motorola handsets in North America, Europe and Asia.

T-Mobile cellphones & Wi-Fi routers

The U.S. wireless unit of Deutsche Telekom AG said the service would improve indoor coverage by automatically swapping calls from the cellular network to run over Wi-Fi, a radio technology found in most laptop computers and an increasing number of cellphones.

Subscribers would pay an extra fee of up to $19.99 per line or $29.99 for five lines on top of regular monthly cellular bills for unlimited calls in a subscriber's home or the nearly 8,500 places T-Mobile runs Wi-Fi, like Starbucks coffee shops.

Mike Selman, T-Mobile USA's product marketing director, hopes the service appeals to people who want to ditch their landline home phone but are concerned about weak cellular coverage or costs.

"About 30% of wireless calls are made from within the home," Selman said.

Selman said the service would help T-Mobile USA compete better with its rivals. Two of them are owned by traditional wireline telephone companies: AT&T and Verizon Wireless, a venture of Verizon Communications and Vodafone Group Plc .

Sprint Nextel, the No. 3 U.S. wireless service, does not have a landline business but has forged a venture with cable operators to provide services similar to T-Mobile USA's latest offering.

Jupiter Research analyst Michael Gartenberg said the service made sense for consumers who want only one phone.

"At that point it becomes a very strong incentive to get rid of the landline," he said. "If you have to keep your landline in addition, unless you're planning on talking on your cellphone a lot, the extra $20 may not make sense."

T-Mobile USA's service will work with Samsung Electronic's t409 phone or the Nokia 6086, which the company will sell online or in its stores.

MOBIL TV

In 2006 a new TV era started and in Europe Samsung took a leading position in this field. In the European Union mobile TV-contents are transmitted via DVB-H and DMB. In Italy DVB-H is regularly transmitted since the fourth quarter of 2006. In Germany DMB has been introduced in mid 2006 and England uses a version of DMB (DAB-IP). Thus, Samsung already now sets new trends for future TV-applications in Europe. The company pushes forward the milestones of mobile broadcasting offers to guarantee interesting multi-media experiences for future users.

Already the current Samsung TV mobile phones are cleverly designed and have excellent functionalities.
Samsung covers all relevant platforms by supporting terrestrial DMB (T-DMB), satellite DMB (S-DMB), DVB-H and MediaFLO (Forward Link Only).
The good digital image quality and the very good sound assure optimum enjoyment of TV-events, radio programmes, music or your personal video recordings.

Redesigned iPods

Tom Krazit
The iPhone has launched, and the iMac has been redesigned, which means it's probably time for new iPods.

Several different reports have surfaced over the past couple of days regarding revamped iPods that Apple may or may not have in the works. Other than adding color to the iPod Shuffle line, Apple hasn't done anything with the traditional iPods this year, and it looks like that's about to change.
AppleInsider believes that Apple will release Mac OS X-based iPods in September, citing unidentified sources. This particular theory has surfaced before, with many believing that Apple will introduce an iPod that looks just like the iPhone, just without the ability to make phone calls.

These new iPods would have features very similiar to the iPhone but would retain the familiar click-wheel interface, according to AppleInsider. The site thinks four models are planned, two new iPod Nano models and two new iPod models, all of which would run some iteration of Mac OS.

It seems to make sense to me that Apple would want to start releasing Mac OS X iPods, given the amount of work it put into tailoring Mac OS for the iPhone and the extras that could possibly come along with Leopard in October. Also, a phone-less iPhone would finally give Apple a real video iPod, with the wider screen and the ability to watch movies or TV in landscape mode.

The exact details may still be up in the air, and the only safe bet seems to be that Apple will release new iPods later this year to refresh an aging lineup in time for the holiday season. Apple sold 21 million iPods in the fourth quarter of last year without making any major changes, and new designs could prompt upgrades.

Digital Pen Mightier

For decades, tech companies have been trying to create a digital pen that appeals to the masses. But after years of effort, the world isn't exactly overrun with high-tech quills.

A new crop of companies, however, say it's too soon to write off the idea.

This week, Irvine, Calif.-based Iogear announced plans for a digital pen that can work with standard paper. Last month, educational computer maker LeapFrog introduced the FlyFusion, its second go at the digital pen. And later this year, Silicon Valley start-up LiveScribe plans to introduce a $200 device that can not only take digital notes, but also synchronize them with an audio recording.
Digital pens image from news.com
The latest bunch are a far cry from the earliest attempts to add a brain to the standard Bic. But the question remains: Will these new devices be more than a curiosity? Or will they, like their predecessors, find themselves quickly relegated to the back of desk drawers or spend their days as expensive paperweights?

The quest for a digital pen people actually want has lived alongside another perennial tech pursuit--getting people to navigate traditional computers using the pen as an input device. While Microsoft has managed to create a few converts with its Tablet PC and many graphic designers use pen tablets for their work, the overwhelming majority of people still do their hunting and pecking via the venerable keyboard.

Features include a Walkman digital music player, a 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0 (with a stereo profile), and a Memory Stick Micro card slot. It also features a stainless steel skin, and is available in black or silver with some requisite highlights in Walkman-phone orange. Unfortunately, with triband (GSM 900/1800/1900) and UMTS 2100 support, it won't be optimized for U.S. carriers. Still, you should be able to get it here unlocked.

The W880i kit contains all you need for a full musical experience. It includes a stereo handsfree, PC software and a 1GB Memory Stick Micro™ (M2™).
